Rebecca Liu-Brennan, Amanda Barr & Nathan Barr

Hi, I'm Rebecca Liu-Brennan!

Rebecca has owned Performance Art Western Sydney (PAWS) for the last 16 years. She quickly established her studio as a leader in the industry, with many graduates of her school going onto professional careers in the dance and circus industries both in Australia and around the world.

Early on in her Dance Studio Owner journey, Rebecca learned that having incredible success in terms of training amazing performers and winning competitions didn't necessarily mean you had the same level of success in business.

Never one to do things by halves, Rebecca threw herself into learning everything she could about being a successful business owner. Applying the same tenacity and determination that saw her become such a successful dance teacher, Rebecca has seen the business side of her studio EXPLODE over the last 10-12 years. The staggering growth of her Pre-School program, from 30 to 180 students in just 4 short years is just one example of this.

The Entertainment Company that she has developed alongside her studio produces and performs professional shows and pantomimes all over Sydney. On top of being another amazing Revenue stream for her Dance Studio, this Company provides her students of all ages with incredile opportunites to work professionally within the Dance industry.

Rebecca now sits in a CEO style role in her studio, overseeing a team of 24 staff which allows her to focus on the parts of her business that bring her joy. As she has trained and developed her own team over the years, Rebecca has developed a real passion for training not only Dance Teachers, but all Dance Studio staff. This has lead her to launch Teacher Tribe, the only Dance Studio specific staff training program in Australia. As well as that, Rebecca operates RLB Mentoring where she helps mentor other studio owners to achieve their goals faster than they ever believed possible. In 2021 Rebecca is launching the Dance Cirque program to more than 70 schools around Australia and NZ. This increadible program will be introducing thousands of students to the world of Circus Arts.

One of her superpowers as a Dance Studio Owner and Business person is her ability to connect with her local community. Her connection with other business owners and genuine passion for improving her community has seen her become the Head of Fundraising for the Penrith Community Kitchen. This incredible organisation feeds 500-800 homeless and disadvantaged people in her local area every day.

Hi, we're Amanda & Nathan Barr

Always driven to the world of dance but coming from a family of entrepreneurs saw Amanda opened her studio, Dance Sensations at the age of just 16 with just 30 students in a single studio location. Amanda truly is living proof that owning a successful Dance Studio can be a pathway to achieve your dreams and have ongoing financial security for your family.

Over the next few years Amanda grew Dance Sensations into not only one of the biggest studios in her local area, but in the whole country. The studio enjoyed yearly revenue growth and saw the business grow into more space every couple of years.

In late 2014 Amanda & Nathan put it all on the line and purchased a 1200 square metre commercial premises to open Dance Sensations’ 2nd location in Shellharbour. This saw Nathan leave his job as a Maths Teacher to come to work in the business full-time, a HUGE decision for their family. With a background in Financial Software, Accounting as well as Maths Teaching, Nathan in one of those strange people who just love numbers! Nathan’s superpowers are helping studio owners embrace technology to make their lives EASIER, and doing financial business analysis as someone who truly understands how a Dance Studio operates.

By establishing the right business practices, strategies and systems, Amanda & Nathan are now able to pick and choose the roles and tasks they take on in the studio and the hours they work, meaning that they have more time to spend with their young family.

Under Amanda’s leadership, Dance Sensations has continued to grow rapidly. They have now combined their two locations under one huge, happy roof in Shellharbour. Their 6 Studios have over 750 students per week taking over 2100 classes and has a seven figure turnover! Amanda leads a team of 22, with some of her employees being part of the Dance Sensations family since they were Pre-school students which is a testament to the amazing culture Amanda has built over the years.

Both her and Nathan have invested heavily in their own personal growth and development as business people over the years, attending conferences and courses around Australia and the USA. This has not only allowed them to achieve great success in their business, but has seen Amanda receive numerous awards, including being named ‘Local Business Person of the Year’ in 2018 and in 2019 was awarded 3rd Place in the ‘Aus Mum of the Year’ at the prestigious AusMumpreneur award.

On top of the studio, Amanda & Nathan's current focus is on their business coaching with Raise the Barr. They are helping other studio owners and local businesses escape the daily grind, start making real money and create a business which matches their vision. With the right systems in place, you’ll have happier, more engaged students, impressive profits and the life you have always dreamed of.
