Hey friends, Amanda and Bec here again, with no bullshit business tips.
Rebecca Liu-Brennan 0:13
We are super excited today to chat to you guys about concerts, and maybe change your way of thinking a little bit around concert.
Amanda Barr 0:20
Absolutely. So what we want you to think about in terms of your concert is Who is it for every decision that you're making? Who is it for? And who is your client? I think sometimes a concert time we forget.
Rebecca Liu-Brennan 0:32
Yes. And this was a big game changer for me. When Amanda and I started talking about this, and I started really thinking about who is my concert for like, obviously, it's supposed to be for the kids.
Amanda Barr 0:44
Absolutely.
Rebecca Liu-Brennan 0:45
But sometimes I think I was making it about myself way too much. And also, I never really considered the parents in the whole concert thing.
Amanda Barr 0:54
Absolutely. Now the parents are our clients, I think often we think about what the kids want what the kids want. And we obviously need to think about that. But it's the parents who are paying the bill. So every decision you're making for your concert, we really want you to be thinking about, is this for my client? Or is it something that I want? What are some examples of that kind of stuff?
Rebecca Liu-Brennan 1:13
Right? Well, I want to talk about big, lengthy rehearsals, that we may be doing the lead up to concert, you know, weeks before and we have 10 dress rehearsals, and we have all the things. And I I'm actually aware of a school that's doing this at the moment. And it's really interesting seeing it from the outside in. It's because it's my sister in law's son who's at the school. And so he's got always dress rehearsals and extra rehearsals, and she's got four other kids who do other things and like it's so full on. And I used to do that. I have to admit, Amanda,
Amanda Barr 1:46
Absolutely. And I think, you know, rehearsals have a place 100% You need to run rehearsals, we understand we get it. But you know, is getting that routine, this much better worth it to piss off your clients. You know, I think that that's really something we need to think about. And sometimes the decisions become ego driven, right? And they're about how good you want the dance to look, not what the parents want to see. Because what the parents want to see is happy smiling kids. Right,
Rebecca Liu-Brennan 2:14
Exactly. And then like, pick up and drop off from concert. Like what an experience that is for your parents. And also like we always talk about leaving that lasting impression, right. But the lasting impression is probably a cranky kid who's had a horrible time at the concert, who's getting picked up by, you know, mom and dad. And that's their lasting impression.
Amanda Barr 2:34
Yeah, absolutely. So we really want you to think about who is this concert for? Is it for yourself? Is the decisions you're making for you because you want this amazing thing? Is the price of your costume for you. Is it for the parents because we need to be thinking about our clients all the time, right?
Rebecca Liu-Brennan 2:34
It's definitely a game changer, guys. Every decision you make now with concert, think about all of those parties involved and thinking about whether it's ego driven, or is it client driven.
