Hi guys, vegan Amanda here from no bullshit business tips, and we wanted to talk to you guys about goal setting, we are all about it, and we think it's a really important part of your business.
Amanda Barr 0:16
Absolutely. You know, as small business owners as sole traders, you know, it's sometimes it's a little bit lonely and making something a little bit fun by gamifying. It is so, so important. So both Beck and I, you know, have really specific ways that we like to set goals, we are very big on setting goals, and then rewarding ourselves. Because if no one else is gonna give you a pat on the back, right? Like, we're here by ourselves, we're running this studio by ourselves, you need to reward yourself, because there's not that magical CEO that's coming to give you the president any point or the pat on the back, right?
Rebecca Liu Brennan 0:48
Absolutely. And so the first thing is you need to set goals. And I know that sounds crazy, but as students, and as you know, we are just constantly running, there's always things to do, there's always things to answer. And then we forget about the bigger picture. And I'm very big on everyone having their goals next to them all the time being up on your wall, on your bedside table, wherever it is to keep reminding you that you do need to have those needle pushers in your business, and not just keep running. Absolutely.
Amanda Barr 1:15
So you know, one of the big things that I always like to set goals around the student numbers, right? And student numbers make sense, you know, for you, it might be revenue or something along those lines. But you know, I like to do it not just like overall student numbers, because I think that's important, for sure. But then I also do for smaller events as well, like how many tickets I want to sell for the concert? Or you know how many kids I want to get enrolled in that new style, that new programme or whatever. Do you do things like that, too?
Rebecca Liu Brennan 1:41
Yeah, absolutely. And I think the more you can do that with yourself. And then if you've got a team with your team, it just keeps everyone consistently, you know, upping their game upping their game. But I know once we set that goal, we need to reward ourselves and a lot of things that studio owners forget to do is reward themselves and remind themselves of the amazing things they're achieving. But I know you do some really cool things with it. So tell us about I
Amanda Barr 2:06
do like I, I love a glass of champagne, as we all do, right. And so, you know, one of the things that I started doing a long time ago was writing, you know, buying some nice bottles of champagne, I'd buy some Verve or do something nice, right? And I would put tags around them little tags with my goals written on them. And I put them in the fridge. Because that way I sold them every single day. Yeah, I'd open to get the milk out or whatever. And I'd see that nice chilled bottle of Verve with X amount of students written on it. And I'd be like, really like to drink that. What can I do today to make a difference to get towards that goal? And like that work for me. It was fun, right?
Rebecca Liu Brennan 2:46
Yeah, I love that. And like in a lot of our tribe and studio growth club, you know, chats that we have, they have set goals, because we've taught them about this. And it's so great to see them say oh my gosh, I'm drinking the champagne guys I hit my studio numbers are, oh my gosh, I took less than I'm taking myself on that holiday guys, I've hit that goal that I wanted to financially. So, you know, like having that reward at the end of it, I think is the key to success. Absolutely.
Amanda Barr 3:12
And I also think it's really important to share those goals with people, especially your loved ones, your partner, your family, all of those things. So I actually, you know, I do love the champagne goal. But I we do also put goals around that my whole family can enjoy. Oh, yeah, yeah. Because I think that that's really important because it is a team effort. Right? So you know, it might be a nice dinner out with my husband. You know, that might be something it might be a holiday for our family. Yeah, it might be a new handbag for me. But that's not so much for the family. But you know, whatever it is right? But making it fun, because I think when you can make it fun and you can work towards something. That's how we really start pushing and get to be better studio owners, right?
Rebecca Liu Brennan 3:51
Yes. And what I love about that, is you saying that you're saying it to people around you saying it out loud, constantly, all the time will remind you what you're reaching for. And also get everyone around you to make you accountable. And I think that's really important. If you keep saying it, this is what we're trying to hit. This is what we're trying to hit, this is what we're trying to hit, then everyone around you will support you and it will build you up to get there. Absolutely.
Amanda Barr 4:14
And it'll make you want to actually do it because you you know, you don't want to like go against what you said. Yeah. 100% So what we want you to do is set a goal today make take action on this. You know, think about what is your current goal, what do you want to do and then what's the reward you're gonna give yourself?
Rebecca Liu Brennan 4:30
Yeah, absolutely. We know you guys can take action on this. Let's do this shit.
